Passive Fire Compliance

Practical passive fire compliance support for existing buildings, maintenance works and inspection preparation.

When fire collars are required

Fire collars are typically installed where combustible plastic pipes pass through fire-rated walls or floors. During a fire the plastic pipe can soften or melt, creating an opening that allows fire and smoke to spread through the penetration.

Fire collars contain intumescent material that expands when exposed to heat. This expansion crushes the pipe and seals the opening to help maintain the fire performance of the wall or floor.

  • • PVC plumbing pipes
  • • Waste and drainage pipes
  • • Service risers and plant rooms
  • • Bathroom and kitchen penetrations
  • • Plastic pipework through fire-rated floors

Compliance support

Passive fire compliance involves keeping rated walls, floors and service penetrations in a condition that maintains the intended fire separation throughout the life of the building.

Common issues

Typical problems include unsealed penetrations, damaged systems, missing collars, poorly installed sealants and undocumented remedial works.

How BPFI helps

We help identify passive fire issues, carry out remedial installation and record the work clearly for future inspection and maintenance.
